A native of Sylacauga, AL, Carol Jean Coleman was born on November 25th . “I was raised up in church all my life, so gospel music is what I grew to love”. While attending revival one fall Oct day in 1971 at Hopewell 1st Baptist Church and enjoying the word being preached by Evangelist Frank Taylor, I accepted Jesus into my heart and life was never the same again. I learned that the name “Carol” meant “Song of Joy” and that gave me direction for my life. Proverbs 3: 5-6 became very important to me:
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths."
“I grew up on the sounds of Southern Gospel and church hymns, so I began singing in church choirs, doing solo’s and singing on the radio when I was younger every chance I could.”
“I had a wide variety of music to choose from throughout my life, now I choose to use all of my music to give God the glory and help others to do the same.” “I want to leave a singing knowing that I somehow blessed someone with God’s message.” I joined The Dotson Family Quartet in 1986 and have been with them ever since. “The Dotson’s made me feel so welcome, and that feeling has never changed in the last 20 years.”
After being introduced to the love of my life Ricky Hutto by Archie Dotson, I was married at Calvary Baptist Church Oct 1,1999. “Ricky has been an outstanding support and encouragement to me throughout the last several years. I love him so much and am blessed so richly to have him in my life.”
Note: Carol's husband Ricky passed away on May 4th, 2007. Please pray for Carol and her family to find strength in the Lord during this loss.
My children, Tammy Fournier (Rob) of Hueytown AL, Jeff Graham (Michelle) of Ohatchee AL, my grandchildren Kevin, Shane, Brittany, Joshua, Coty, and Charity along with my other family members, all support me in doing what I love. I want to be an example to my family and friends in my Christian walk. To stand for what’s right, and be a witness for the Lord. I am ready to go wherever he leads me and spread the gospel in song. I love meeting people in the Lord’s house and getting acquainted with my new friends. My hobbies comes naturally, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and playing PacMan.
When I’m asked what my favorite gospel song is, the song “I’d Rather Have Jesus” always is my response. I enjoy listening to all gospel music, but I really enjoy the music “The Hoppers” performs best of all. When I’m not singing, I enjoy dining at Lloyd’s Restaurant on Hwy 280, and having my favorite food, Hamburger Steak. While I don’t have much time to watch sports on tv, I still consider myself an Auburn fan. “WAR EAGLE”. It’s my prayer that I’m being a blessing to all who reads my bio.
